Club History Curling Dunblane Curling Club – History in 1816 the club was formally formed when 10 Dunblane residents met in the Kinross Inn (Stirling Arms Hotel, now The Riverside) to create the Dunblane Curling Club, and elect Captain Patrick Stirling of Kippendavie as the first Club Chairman. The annual member subscription was set at 2 shillings and 6 pence, (equivalent to apprx £12 in todays monetary values). Members played on local lochs, with “Grand Matches” against other Perthshire teams. Interestingly, one of the first club expenditures was for a chain & lock to secure the Clubs curling stones! In Scotland the sport of curling became very popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries, with our Club membership peaking at 89 members in 1919. 100 years ago the tradition of holding an annual “Curlers Supper” was introduced, and this continues, with todays active Club maintaining such social activities, in addition to the competitive curling games.
